Strengthening and institutionalization of hyperglycemia in pregnancy services in India
Objectives
The project will improve long term maternal health outcomes through Hyperglycemia in pregnancy (HIP) screening and management, as well as leveraging pregnancy as “window of opportunity” for type 2 diabetes prevention and early diagnosis.
Approach
The project adopts a health system strengthening approach with an additional component on community awareness and engagement to improve diagnosis, management, of HIP in public and private sector.
Expected results
• HIP testing and management services are institutionalised in public and private sector facilities in the five states by improving commodity and building competency of service providers
• Improved client engagement and continuity of care for woman with HIP
• Improved compliance to GoI guidelines and integration of HIP in antenatal care package by Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), Government of India (GoI)
• Develop a learning lab for beyond pregnancy follow-up of HIP and linkage of HIP with other co-morbidities such as TB and hypertensive disorder of pregnancy
