WDF has supported projects in Tanzania since 2003, over the past seven years in direct partnership with the Ministry of Health, Community Development, Gender, Elderly and Children, and more recently also with the President’s Office for Regional Administration and Local Government. This new phase of collaboration, with additional funding from Novo Nordisk Foundation, will enable the Tanzanian health authorities and health system to roll out several elements of its current NCD strategy and action plan. Building upon experiences and results of the first phase of the National NCD Prevention and Control Programme (WDF06-221), WDF19-1680 will work to provide capacity building at primary care and community levels across Tanzania by training thousands of healthcare workers, who will be given improved skills and resources to screen, diagnose and treat NCDs and also become better able to raise awareness in communities about NCDs and their underlying risk factors.Further, to enhance the health literacy of children and adolescents and strengthen primary prevention in Tanzania, the project will support the national school health programme by training teachers at primary and secondary schools in all parts of the country.
