To expand access to detection, prevention and care of diabetes to the entire indigenous population of Sololá (est. total pop. 500,000) in close collaboration with public health authorities.
Establish a regional integrated healthcare centre at HA hospital in order to provide a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach to management of diabetes, and to reduce the risk of complications, through the provision of equipment, specialised training of HCPs and the establishment of a treatment protocol.Establish a mobile diabetes care service to make regular, scheduled visits at public health clinics through the organisation of a diabetes travel unit to provide screenings and treatment in rural areas; provide all existing MoH clinics with supplies for screenings and education, and expand care to the remote Nahuala region.Raise awareness and improve health literacy through: cultural- and language-appropriate education materials; classroom education for youth; training of HCPs, provision of nutritional tools for DM patients, and community eventsEnhance the existing infrastructure of rural MoH clinics by including a comprehensive referral network of participating healthcare services, developing a diabetes registry to better organise clinical data, and monitoring patient progress for the entire Department of Sololá.
