Increasing access to multidisciplinary diabetes care - Phase II, Philippines

Objectives

Improving diabetes care and prevention at primary health care facilities in the Davao and Western Visayas regions of the Philippines.

Approach

This project is an enhancement and scaling-up of the Increasing Access to Multidisciplinary Diabetes Care project, WDF 13-843.https://www.worlddiabetesfoundation.org/projects/philippines-wdf13-843

The Cardiovascular Disease (CVD) program in Davao Region - the first and only large-scale effort to integrate services for CVD/diabetes prevention and control in the existing primary health care system - will be consolidated and a new region, West Visayas, will be added. A retinopathy component will be included in Davao City to promote systematic eye screening of all persons with diabetes attending the health centres. National advocacy is an important component, the objective being to see a validated CVD/diabetes programme approach duplicated in all regions of the Philippines as part of its Phil-PEN project (Philippines Package of Essential Non communicable diseases).
