WDF funds 8 new projects in the first half of 2025

Focused on holistic and multi-sectoral approaches, the eight new projects aim to strengthen Non-Communicable Disease responses and improve health outcomes across Africa, Central and South America, the Western Pacific, and South-East Asia.

Targeting effective diabetes prevention and management, these eight projects enhance health literacy while embracing life course strategies to develop sustainable health solutions.

Empowering communities is key, as these projects provide tools and knowledge for individuals to manage their health better, improving healthcare quality and accessibility for those with diabetes.

The initiatives are tailored to meet the needs of different populations, integrating traditional health practices with formal medical systems, particularly in culturally diverse areas.

China

WDF 23- 1931

 

The project aims to enhance health literacy among the general population, focusing on diabetes prevention and management within the frameworks of Healthy China 2030 and the Healthy Cities Initiative.

India

WDF 24-1932

The project aims to develop inclusive, culturally acceptable, and evidence-based models for preventing risk factors and NCDs at the primary level in tribal districts across five states.

Bangladesh

WDF 24-1938

The project seeks to enhance NCD care for Rohingya refugees and host communities in Cox’s Bazar by improving primary health care services and building the capacity of healthcare providers. It also aims to raise awareness of NCD risk factors, integrate NCD care into humanitarian frameworks, and establish additional NCD clinics in the area.

Global

WDF 24-1940

The project focuses on improving care and quality of life for people living with type 1 diabetes by collecting data and establishing best practice guidelines, especially in LMICs. Research conducted by Lancet Diabetes & Endocrinology Commission will inform evidence-based recommendations to address type 1 diabetes equitably and sustainably.

Nepal

WDF 24- 1942

The project seeks to reduce the risk of lifelong NCDs by addressing health needs during critical life stages, including pregnancy, maternal and child health, and the first 1,000 days of life.

Belize & Panama

WDF 24- 1943

The project aims to enhance healthcare quality by integrating diabetes management and other NCDs into primary healthcare settings in Belize and Panama.

Bolivia, Guatemala, and Nicaragua

WDF 24- 1948

The project promotes Indigenous cultural diversity and traditional knowledge to address type 2 diabetes and hypertension by integrating traditional health practices with formal medical systems in 14 municipalities across Bolivia, Guatemala, and Nicaragua.

Somalia

WDF 24- 1949

The project aims to improve Somalia's response to diabetes and other NCDs through collaboration across sectors and effective policies at national and sub-national levels.

These new project underscore the importance of a comprehensive and inclusive approach to foster better health outcomes. By fostering multisectoral and multidisciplinary collaboration, these initiatives pave the way for equitable, long term, and sustainable care.
